Our People

ENOBONG ETTEH, Esq.

ENOBONG ETTEH, Esq., a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. In 1984, Etteh gained admission into the University of Cross River (now University of Uyo) to read Political Science as a prelude to a Law degree. His foray into Political Science was, however, punctuated with the establishment of the Faculty of Law in his University. He was, therefore, one of the 3 pioneer Political Science students that transferred to the Faculty of Law to read Civil Law in 1985, where he graduated in 1988 with LL.B. (Hons.) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990.

He has been in active legal practice in Lagos since he was called to the bar. Having been in employment for seven years, he established the Chambers in Lagos under the name Enobong Etteh & Co. (Judah Chambers now Rocheba Solicitors) with branches in Uyo and Abuja. His special areas of practice include Labour Law, Commercial Law and Constitutional Law. He is a member of both the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Section on Business Law of NBA. He is currently the Chairman, Young Lawyers Welfare Committee, NBA, Lagos Branch.

He is committed to the development of Labour Law in Nigeria. Etteh’s current passion is to see reforms in labour legislations and labour justice the administration. In 2004, ROCHEBA Law Publishers came up with the publication of the Nigerian Labour Law Reports (N.L.L.R), with Etteh as the pioneer Publisher/Editor-in-Chief. It must be observed that the Law Report is the first and only specialized law report on employment and Labour Law in Nigeria. Incidentally, the Law Report is also the first in the West African sub-region. The Nigerian Labour Law Reports (N.L.L.R) has placed labour decisions of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, National Industrial Court, Federal High Court and the High Court in the hands not only of lawyers and judges but also of employers, employees, labour unions and industrial relations/human resources practitioners.

Barr. Etteh has made presentations before the Senate’s Public Hearing on the National Industrial Court Bill and the National Assembly’s Public Hearing on the Bill for the amendment of the 1999 Constitution.  He is at present, a member of the National Industrial Court Rules Review Committee. He is seriously involved in organising or speaking at labour related seminars and workshops either directly or through the firm’s consulting outfit, ROCHEBA Consulting.

He is also the National Coordinator of the Campaign for Labour Justice Reform, which successfully canvassed for the amendment of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution in 2010-2011. By the Third Alteration to the said Constitution, the National Industrial Court has been included in the Nigerian Constitution as a superior court of record with exclusive and expanded civil and criminal jurisdiction over all employment, labour and industrial disputes. Now the National Industrial Court is the only Court in Nigeria to apply international conventions, treaties and protocols ratified by Nigeria without further domestication as required by Section 12 of the 1999 Constitution.
